Complete School Swimming Pool Refurbishment Including GRP Lining & Resin-Bound Pool Surround
Tankline recently completed the full refurbishment of a school swimming pool in Hampshire, transforming an ageing facility into a modern, attractive and highly durable swimming environment.
The project went beyond simply relining the pool and included the installation of a new GRP swimming pool lining system, a resin-bound stone pool surround, new drainage channels, precision lane markings, stainless steel fittings and associated finishing works.
Swimming Pool Surface Preparation
The existing tiled pool shell was mechanically diamond ground to remove surface contamination and create the profile required for the new composite lining system.
Once preparation was complete, the tiled substrate was primed using a high-performance vinyl ester resin system to maximise adhesion and provide the ideal surface for installation of the fibreglass laminate.

GRP Swimming Pool Lining Installation
Following priming, our specialist operatives installed a heavy-duty glass reinforced plastic (GRP) laminate throughout the pool structure.
The fibreglass reinforcement was fully embedded within premium vinyl ester resin, creating a strong, seamless and waterproof barrier bonded directly to the existing pool shell. The system is designed to withstand continuous immersion and the demanding chemical environment associated with commercial swimming pools.
Vinyl ester resin systems provide excellent resistance to chlorinated water while offering the adhesion, structural integrity and durability required for long-term submerged applications. Tankline’s GRP lining systems are used across swimming pools and a wide range of other demanding waterproofing and containment applications.
Swimming Pool Finish & Precision Lane Markings
Once installation of the laminate system was complete, the pool was finished in a bright swimming pool blue before the addition of precision jet black lane markings.
The lane lines were carefully measured and installed to ensure consistent positioning and alignment throughout the pool, providing excellent visibility for swimmers and a professional finished appearance.
Resin-Bound Stone Pool Surround
As part of the wider refurbishment, the existing pool surround was upgraded with a resin-bound stone surfacing system. This provided an attractive new finish around the pool while creating a practical surface suited to the demands of a busy school swimming facility.

New ACO Drainage Installation
New ACO drainage channels were incorporated into the resin-bound pool surround to improve the management of water around the pool deck.
The drainage system helps remove surface water from the surrounding area, reducing standing water and contributing to a safer and more practical poolside environment.
Stainless Steel Handrails & Pool Fittings
To complete the refurbishment, new stainless steel handrails and poolside fittings were installed. These provided improved access to the pool while complementing the clean appearance of the new GRP lining and resin-bound surround.

The completed project provided the school with a comprehensive refurbishment rather than simply replacing the existing pool finish. By combining structural preparation and GRP relining with improvements to the surrounding pool deck, drainage and fittings, Tankline was able to modernise the entire swimming environment.
