School Swimming Pool Refurbishment & GRP Relining – Hertfordshire

Commercial Swimming Pool Relining Using a Vinyl Ester GRP System

Tankline recently completed the refurbishment and relining of a school swimming pool in Hertfordshire. The existing pool had reached the end of its service life, with the original bag liner suffering significant damage and deterioration.

Our specialist team was appointed to remove the failed liner, prepare and repair the underlying pool shell, and install a new heavy-duty GRP swimming pool lining designed to provide long-term waterproofing and durability within a demanding school environment.

Removal of the Existing Pool Liner

The project commenced with the complete removal of the damaged bag liner, exposing the underlying pool shell and allowing its condition to be properly assessed.

With the old lining removed, the pool structure could be inspected for defects and prepared for the installation of a new fully bonded composite lining system.

Swimming Pool Surface Preparation

Correct surface preparation is fundamental to the performance of any new lining system. The entire pool shell was water blasted to remove contaminants and provide a clean surface suitable for subsequent preparation and bonding.

Any defects identified within the exposed shell were repaired using specialist composite repair compounds before installation of the new laminate commenced.

Tankline provides specialist high-pressure surface cleaning alongside mechanical and abrasive preparation methods, allowing the preparation process to be selected according to the substrate and condition of each project.

Vinyl Ester GRP Swimming Pool Lining

Our operatives installed a new glass reinforced plastic (GRP) laminate throughout the swimming pool using a high-performance vinyl ester resin system. The laminate was carefully applied to create a continuous, fully bonded waterproof barrier across the pool structure.

The combination of fibreglass reinforcement and vinyl ester resin creates a robust lining capable of withstanding continuous immersion and exposure to the chemicals associated with the operation and maintenance of a commercial swimming pool.

Vinyl ester resin also provides excellent resistance to chlorine and pool treatment chemicals, making GRP an effective solution for the refurbishment of ageing school, commercial and leisure swimming pools.

Tankline’s GRP lining systems are used across a wide range of demanding environments where a strong, seamless and chemically resistant protective barrier is required.

Resin Wash & Finishing Works

Following completion of the GRP laminate, a vinyl ester resin wash coat was applied to seal the laminate and prepare the surface for its final decorative and protective finish.

The swimming lanes were then carefully measured and marked out to ensure consistent positioning and precise alignment along the length of the pool.

NPG Flow Coat & Swimming Lane Markings

The refurbishment was completed with the application of a specialist NPG (Neopentyl Glycol) flow coat system in a swimming pool blue finish.

Jet black lane markings were then professionally installed, creating a sharp contrast against the blue pool surface and providing clear visibility for swimmers.

The combination of the structural GRP laminate and specialist finishing system transformed the ageing pool into a bright, waterproof and durable facility suitable for continued use by the school.
