Vinyl Ester GRP Pool Lining Installation & NPG Finish
Tankline recently completed a full GRP swimming pool refurbishment project in North Wales, transforming a tired and deteriorated pool shell into a durable, watertight structure finished with a bright blue NPG pool topcoat.
The project involved extensive mechanical surface preparation, a high-performance vinyl ester resin system and the installation of a fully reinforced fibreglass laminate designed to provide long-term protection against water ingress.
Diamond Grinding & Pool Surface Preparation
The existing pool shell was first diamond ground to remove contaminants, loose material and previous coatings while creating a suitable surface profile for the new lining system.
Areas of the substrate affected by dampness were carefully flame dried to ensure the pool shell was sufficiently dry before installation of the new laminate began.
Correct preparation is one of the most important stages of any swimming pool lining project. Vinyl Ester Resin Priming
Once surface preparation was complete, the pool shell was primed using a high-performance vinyl ester resin system.
Vinyl ester resin offers excellent resistance to water and chemicals while providing the adhesion and durability required for demanding swimming pool environments. Priming also provides the foundation onto which the reinforced GRP laminate can be securely bonded.
Fully Reinforced GRP Pool Lining
Following priming, our specialist operatives installed a fully reinforced glass reinforced plastic (GRP) laminate throughout the swimming pool. Fibreglass reinforcement was embedded within the vinyl ester resin to create a strong, continuous and seamless lining across the pool structure.
The resulting composite system provides a watertight barrier capable of accommodating normal structural movement while protecting the underlying pool shell against water ingress and deterioration.

Pigmented Vinyl Ester Resin Coat
Once the GRP laminate had fully cured, a pigmented vinyl ester resin coat was applied across the newly lined pool. This provided additional protection to the laminate while creating a smooth and consistent surface ready to receive the final decorative coating.
Blue NPG Swimming Pool Topcoat
The refurbishment was completed with the application of a premium blue NPG (Neopentyl Glycol) swimming pool topcoat.
NPG topcoats are well suited to swimming pool environments due to their colour retention, UV stability and resistance to commonly used pool treatment chemicals. The blue finish provided a significant visual transformation while also forming the final protective surface of the new lining system.
The completed combination of vinyl ester resin, reinforced GRP laminate and specialist NPG topcoat provides a seamless pool lining designed for prolonged immersion and continued service.

Completed North Wales Pool Refurbishment
The completed project transformed the deteriorated pool shell into a clean, bright and fully lined swimming pool. Rather than replacing the existing structure, Tankline was able to prepare and refurbish the pool before installing a new reinforced lining system directly onto the existing shell.
