Private Swimming Pool Refurbishment Using a Vinyl Ester GRP Lining System
Tankline recently completed the refurbishment and relining of a private outdoor swimming pool in Suffolk using a specialist vinyl ester GRP laminate system.
The existing pool had reached the stage where a complete refurbishment was required to provide a modern, waterproof and low-maintenance finish capable of delivering many years of reliable service. The project included mechanical surface preparation, localised repairs, vinyl ester priming, installation of a reinforced GRP laminate and a new decorative pool finish.
Swimming Pool Shell Preparation
As with any successful swimming pool lining project, thorough surface preparation formed the foundation of the installation.
The existing pool shell was mechanically diamond ground to remove contamination and create the surface profile required for the new laminate system. Any defects identified within the structure were repaired before coating work commenced.
A high-performance vinyl ester primer was then applied to maximise adhesion between the prepared substrate and the new fibreglass lining. GRP Swimming Pool Lining Installation
Following preparation and priming, our specialist operatives installed a heavy-duty glass reinforced plastic (GRP) laminate throughout the pool shell.
Fibreglass reinforcement and surface veil were applied across the pool walls and floor before being fully consolidated using premium vinyl ester resin. Particular attention was given to achieving a continuous laminate across the structure, creating a seamless waterproof barrier suitable for permanent immersion.
The combination of fibreglass reinforcement and vinyl ester resin provides the strength, adhesion and chemical resistance required for demanding swimming pool environments. Pigmented Resin Sealing Coat
Following completion of the laminate installation, a pigmented vinyl ester resin coat was applied across the newly lined pool.
This stage helps seal microscopic pinholes within the laminate while encapsulating the fibreglass reinforcement and creating a smoother, more uniform surface ready to receive the final decorative topcoat.
Decorative Pool Finish & White Lane Markings
The swimming pool was finished in an attractive blue coating which dramatically transformed the appearance of the existing structure and provided the final protective surface over the GRP laminate.
White lane markings were then carefully installed to complement the bright blue finish. The lighter markings provide a clean and contemporary appearance, creating a more subtle contrast than the traditional black lane markings commonly found in commercial swimming pools.
